Most good travel reward credit cards come with an annual fee. (In fact, the credit card that we recommend starting with has a $95 annual fee.)  The annual fee is almost always worth it the first year when you get the welcome offer! For most welcome offers, you need to spend around $3,000-$4,000 on your credit card in 3-4 months in order to earn a certain amount of points. Many welcome offers are worth around $750-$1,000 in free travel. (But we know ways to stretch that welcome offer to a lot more travel value than that!) Paying a $95 fee the first year for the welcome offer is a no brainer, but what do you do after the first year when the annual fee hits again?
